Popularity Of Dice Games
Most people are familiar with dice games in casinos, and, as far as casino games go, there are few games that have been around for as long. It has been said that our ancient ancestors were playing games with dice, even before modern society was born. The tradition of dice playing has lasted throughout history, with it being common to spot people hunched over in the streets enjoying a game of dice, in virtually every historical era.
So popular are dice games that popular terms such as snake eyes, born from two ones showing on a pair of dice, and have carried over and become a part of common dialect. Few other games boast this sort of influence.
So what, exactly, is the appeal of dice games, and just how popular do dice games remain in modern online and real world casinos?
Dice Game Basics
When it comes to online casino games, many prefer a game that very clearly and deliberately shows the stakes involved. In roulette, for example, the large spinning wheel very clearly displays the numbers that can be bet on, which gives the player an idea of how likely, or unlikely, a specific bet is to succeed. Dice are similar in this way.
There are six sides to a dice, and two dice in a game of craps. Your average person very clearly grasps how likely a six sided dice is to display one number or another, and so feels comfortable betting on the outcome. After all, who has not handled a pair of dice in their lifetime? And, if a person has handled a pair of dice, there is a good chance that they have played the game of craps, even if casually among friends.
Craps - Basic Rules
Most are aware of how to play the game of craps, but it never hurts to brush up on the rules. The idea of craps is that the player, or shooter, rolls the dice an initial time, hoping to achieve a 7 or 11. If this is achieved, the shooter is a winner and the round automatically ends. If, however, the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 it is an immediate loss. If any other numbers are rolled, the round must go into a second phase, in which the shooter must re-roll the initially rolled number, before rolling a 7. If a 7 is rolled first the shooter loses. The dice will keep being rolled until one or the other result is achieved.
Note that the interesting thing about craps is that onlookers may bet on the game, even if the are not the shooter. Bets may be placed by anyone watching, on the results of the dice, as if they were the player. This makes craps a highly interesting and enjoyable game for groups of people. It is important to keep in mind, however, that bets may be placed on the shooter failing or winning. For example, a bet may be placed on the initial roll hitting the 7 or 11, as well as failing to do so.
Craps is just one of the popular dice games available online, and players can also try their hand at games like Sic Bo if they love the thrills that a roll of the dice produce.
